Here is a piece of good advice – if you want your dry skin to glow, go for those skin astringents without alcohol.

Alcohol found in clarifying lotions, aftershaves, and splash-on fragrances act as drying agents. They also induce coagulation of blood proteins.

These “alcoholic substance” often remove the oils from your skin and damaging them. That’s why, you will experience a tight feeling after the application.

Just to warn you, using toners with alcohol frequently has been known to irritate already-dry skin, causing it to burn, itch, and redden. Alcohol irritates the skin and is of one the main cause for contact dermatitis, another form of dry skin disease. So what kind of ingredients should you look out for your choice of astringent?

Natural Ingredients

Using natural ingredients are better for you as it’s not known to be irritating to the skin.

Calendula, ethanol and witch hazel, traditionally known as three of the best natural healers, are ingredients that is better for your dry skin.

Other recommendations:

Rose water is a very light, gentle ingredient that helps repair the skin and reduces swelling and bruising.

Almond can help to nourish the skin and has rich soothing properties.

Cucumber can help to tone the skin. It is effective in cooling the skin down.

Pineapple has anti-inflammatory and cleansing properties, and it helps in the removal of impurities and dead tissue; and

Indian Gooseberry has cleaning and anti-oxidant properties.

Conclusion

Even though it is not totally bad to use a skin astringent, you can probably consider using a soap or a milder cleanser as well. Always remember to choose those dry skin skin products without alcohol ingredients contained in them.Do apply a moisturizer after using it. It will help to smoothen your skin better.

Which dry skin soap to use if you have itchy flaky skin?

I would recommend you to try to use gentle, super-fatted soap, many of which contain up to one-third (or greater) moisturizers. Pure glycerin soaps are also moisture retaining, helping reverse the effects of dry skin. Look for soaps infused with citrus enzymes to help remove pore-clogging dead cells and deposits that dull the skin’s surface. Hard-milled face soaps and gentle synthetic detergents are also very appropriate for relieving symptoms associated with dry skin.

Dry Skin Soaps To Avoid

Don’t use harsh soaps like deodorants soaps. Most soaps are alkaline, which means it removes the skin’s natural oils. These soap contain drying ingredients agents. This leads to cracks and infection.Try to avoid commercial soaps altogether. (Commercial dry skin soap are a combination of detergents and preservatives which could be damaging to your skin)

Alternatives To Soap

Actually there are other alternatives to soap products that you can choose. For example, emollient soap substitutes or washes are unique from regular bar soaps in that they are generally soap, and foam-free. They are suitable even for the most harsh type of dry skin. The best choice, however, might be to just bathe with water or a mild lotion cleanser, because it’s most gentle to your skin.

For those experiencing more severe cases of dry skin, you’ve tried soap-substitutes but nothing seems to works! Well, you may need to alternate between a washable lotion and a sensitive-skin bar in such cases. When you choose the lotion, be sure to choose a refreshing, alcohol-free formula with soothing botanicals that hydrates, cools, and rejuvenates your skin.

Do you know which dry skin toner is best for your skin? Very often, the last step in the cleansing process is also the most forgotten and the least understood: toning.

Commercial toners are generally alcohol-based and wreak havoc on dry skin. In fact, some 95% of all commercial toners contain drying alcohol. (Many even contain acetone, the chemical that removes nail polish.)

Alcohol dries out the surface of the skin by removing water and stripping all of the natural oils from the surface of the skin. For this reason, I’ll advise you to never use a toner or exfoliating scrub without a moisturizer – toning alone could worsen dryness in dry skin types.

Because they contain more water than their cousin, astringents, toners are actually better for dry skin. Using a proper skin care toner for dry skin can have many benefits, including the following:

* Freshens and tones up the skin
* Restores the skin’s acid/ alkali or pH balance
* Tightens and closes pores
* Hydrates the skin; and,
* Stimulates circulation

However, if your skin is extremely dry and shows tendencies for other more severe skin problems, toning could pose a threat. In this case, you may want to skip toning altogether, or at least, until such time as your skin has improved and you feel it’s safe to return it to your dry skin care program.

When looking for a dry skin toner, choose a mild, alcohol-free, hydrated toner, specifically formulated for dry skin. The toner should combine natural ingredients and herbal extracts to calm and soothe dry skin, as harsh chemicals will only irritate dry skin even more.

Here are some toning ingredients to look out for: Witch Hazel Extract, Chamomile, Cucumber and Rose Oil. They contain hydrating properties which can only be good for dry skin. Using such natural dry skin toner ingredients, you can be sure that your skin will feel more refresh and youthful within days.

When it comes to facial skin care, there are some essentials basics of good skin care that you should follow. The basis for good skin care for the face includes:

a) Correct determination of skin type.

b) Good personal groom habits – keeping the face scrupulously clean.

c) Making sure your skin has sufficient moisture.

d) Taking precautions against environmental such as sun exposure.

Here are some 7 facial care tips that I have found to be most effective. Try them on your own today!

# Tip 1 – Only use warm water and not hot water to wash your face.

# Tip 2 – Apply a natural cleanser product for your face after washing with your fingers as they are more delicate than a piece of cloth.

# Tip 3 – Use a moisturizer immediately after you have your shower. It really helps to retain moisture for your face to prevent dryness.

# Tip 4 -Get a special eye cream for under-eye areas as it’s more delicate. This is one of the best advice I am offering to you!

# Tip 5 – Wear sun protection at all times on your face if you are out in the sun often. I had chapped lips once for not following this simple rule. Enough said.

# Tip 6 – Use a rich emollients containing oils such as Omega 3 and 6 to help provide more prolonged protection.

# Tip 7 -Use a cleanser rather than soap. You’ll find that it’s less harsh to your skin.

Are you looking for good facial scrubs for your dry skin? Like all living things, our cells grow, age and die. For this reason, a regular exfoliating skin scrub should be utilize regularly to remove dead skin cells.

Using scrubs can be especially effective for dry skin. Dry skin is more over laden with old, dead skin that clog the surface and create a dull lifeless appearance. However, you must be particularly careful not to over-scrub or scrub to harshly, as this will irritate dry skin more so than it already is.

Look for those scrubs containing exfoliating beads of some sort, and maybe a chemical type of ingredient to help exfoliate the skin as it’s more effective.

Facial scrubs with active ingredients provide more nourishment and feed dry skin, whilst you are sloughing off impurities and dead skin waste.

My personal recommendation : Check out facial scrubs from Dr. Michelle Copeland Honey Almond Scrub. It’s invigorating facial dry skin scrub with almond and honey which gently removes dead cells and replenishes with Vitamin C to enhance cell renewal.

Keep scrubbing frequency to a minimal. Dry skin types can get away with a gentle scrub every two to three weeks.

Another mistake is scrubbing too hard. Rough, uneven scrubbing causes nicks and abrasions, and can result in mechanical damage, worsening the effects of dry skin. Again, in the long run, this [hard scrubbing] will only make dry skin, drier.

Morning scrubs is not ideal compared to the evening. Scrub during the evening just before bedtime to give the scrubbing action time to work.

Like we have mentioned above, try to use facial scrubs to help exfoliate your dry skin at least once a week. You’ll definitely see some results after a while…

Which type of skin foundation for dry skin is suitable? What type of skin foundation should you look out for?

Applying makeup skin foundation can help to level out skin tone. It’s perfect if you intend to cover up slight skin defects and it comes in different colors, shades, textures and levels of exposure.

Actually there are several types of foundation for skin available: Liquid, cream, stick and moisturizers. Let us showl you how each works.

Liquid foundation for dry skin provides medium coverage and is usually pretty good for dry skin as most of the products available have incorporated a mild moisturizer in the composition.

Read the label. If it has SPF higher than 30 then it’s even better. If not you should apply a sun protection cream under the foundation to protect your skin from those damaging sun razes.

Creams foundations are the most diversified foundations out there. It’s main advantage is that it offers high coverage and can gives a lasting milky skin tone.

Stick foundations are usually used by professional make up artists because of the ease of use and high degree of coverage provided. It’s very convenient to use it just on those spots you need or on the whole face.

Foundation for dry skin combined with moisturizers is a top notch solution for people suffering from this condition. This combination is simply a great benefit for your skin, helping to keep your skin from being dry easily and yet offers great concealment benefits.

As foundation is basically make up, you will have to choose the right color that suits your own, personal skin tone. Remember to decide upon the level of concealment you desire and after that go for that color.

When applying foundation, several instruments can be used like your fingers, a sponge or a brush. It really depends on the individual. Whatever feels better for you is what you should use.

Liquid foundation is best applied using your fingers (so is the case for cream as well) and a compact foundation is better if applied with a smooth sponge so that your skin will not get damaged.
