Dry Skin On Penis: To Worry Or Not?

Most men who find dry skin on penis areas may be concerned at first. If you are very concerned about possibly having an STD (sexually transmitted disease), contact a health care provider. Most dry skin on penis areas are from very common, simple causes and can be dealt with very simply.

If you experience dry skin on penis areas on a regular basis, you may need a doctor to look at it and prescribe some steroid cream or other cream to help with the irritation. Most causes do not require much more than simple care of the area.

Simple Causes

The skin in the genital area is no different than the skin on the rest of the body. It can get irritated just as any other area. Dry skin on penis areas may be caused by friction.

This friction may be caused by clothing rubbing up against an erect penis, foreplay. intercourse, or masturbation. If you have recently been involved in any of these activities, refrain until the irritation has a chance to heal.

If you have switched soap or laundry detergent lately, it can cause the dry skin on penis areas as well. Try switching to a mild sensitive skin soap. You may want to run your clothing through an extra rinse cycle to help remove excess soap.

Make sure to wash hands thoroughly after applying anything to other areas of the body. You can transfer the irritants to the penis when you use the bathroom. Switching from silk or satin boxers to cotton underwear will allow the penis area to breathe. Cold weather may cause dry skin on penis areas, as well.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis can cause dry skin on penis areas. It is rarely a serious condition. Heredity is the cause of psoriasis in some patients. it mainly affects other areas of the body but can occasionally be found in the genital area. It does not cause any pain or irritation.

Psoriasis usually appears as dry skin on penis foreskin in the inner surface. it appears as thick raised areas that have very well defined edges. In uncircumcised men, psoriasis may appear with a scaly appearance. It is usually a result of abnormal skin production.

Dry skin on penis areas caused by psoriasis usually do well with the use of steroid cream application.

Eczema

On occasion, dry skin on penis areas is caused by eczema. This, like psoriasis, usually affects other body parts more. Eczema, unlike psoriasis, is a reaction to an irritant.

In other words, dermatitis. Eczema usually presents itself as diffused red areas with faded, poorly visible edges. The dry skin on penis areas are raised and appear scaly but , are much finer that psoriasis.

Irritation of these areas is quite severe. Local skin injury or infection may cause this reaction. Chemicals may cause it, as well. Steroid cream is also used to treat this dry skin on penis areas caused by eczema.

When To Worry
