You can make your own home remedy for poison ivy if you suffer irritating skin effects from this poisonous plant. The problem occurs with poison ivy is when you come into contact with it, most often accidentally.

When the sap or juices from the poison ivy rub off onto your skin, within a short period of two or three days, the rash is visible and the itching has started. This contact causes an allergic reaction. To combat the itching, you can create your own home remedy for poison ivy, with things you have at home.

Poison ivy is a plant that is not real ivy. The plant secretes a juice or sap that can get on the skin. If it does, it can cause a rash to form within about two days. It has severe itching.

You can wait about fourteen days for it to clear on its own or you can make a home remedy for poison ivy. You can use everything from food products to bleach. If the itching gets to be too bad for you, the doctor can give you an allergy shot. Try the home remedy for poison ivy first.

Home Remedies

Here is a list of a home remedy you can try to get relief from poison ivy:

1. The first thing you will need to do is rub alcohol on the poison ivy. Once you have done this, you will need to rinse it with water. Later you will need to rewash it with soap and water.

2. Wet the area that has the poison ivy on it. You will then rub table salt into the area. It is supposed to help with the itching and stop it from spreading.

3. The inside of a banana peel rubbed on the poison ivy is effective in relieving the itching.

4. Put the area affected with the poison ivy under running water. Histamines cause itching. This is supposed to wash them away.

5. Put a few cups of oats in warm water in a bowl. Soak the area affected. At the same time you are soaking, rub the area. This is said to help the itching.

6. Mixing ¼ cup of bleach and ¾ cup of water and then adding it to a washcloth is said to relieve the itching it is supposed to kill the poison in about two to 3 days. Bleach may not be the best idea for your skin!

7. Aloe Vera Juice applied directly, is said to help relieve the itching of the poison.

8. Tea Tree Essential Oil applied directly is said to be the best way to clear poison ivy.

Some Other Things to Use

You may want to try cooling the area down first and applying a hydrocortisone cream. This is supposed to relieve the itching. If you have tried every home remedy for poison ivy that you can find, and it does not get any better, you may want to contact your doctor.

They can give you an allergy shot or pills. The pills tend to cause side effects that are worse that the poison ivy. You may want to consider the shot instead.
