Inverse Psoriasis

Inverse psoriasis

The name sounds like a hard-core rock band but inverse psoriasis is nothing to be played with....as this type of skin disorder can be quite severe.

It's also usually more damaging to people who are considerably overweight. Inverse psoriasis is a form of psoriasis (there are several other types) that is most commonly found in skin folds; under the breasts, arm pits, the groin area and in genital areas.

These are usually areas that tend to display a higher level of perspiration and friction than other parts of the body.

Because this type of psoriasis occurs in some of the most sensitive areas of the body, treatment can be difficult.

Topical steroids creams like cortisone are sometimes used to treat this condition where topical medications had failed.

If you are treating areas plagued by inverse psoriasis, it’s important not to use a plastic dressing. That's because by covering the area, the body absorbs more of the medication. This absorption could easily cause some undesirable side effects. Therefore doctors when treating this type of psoriasis inflammations usually test areas that are prone to yeast and other fungal infections first.

This is usually carried out with a diluted form of steroids and anti-fungal medications. One thing to note however, is that the affected skin can become resistant any treatment given to it after prolonged usage.

Hence, sometimes there is a need to switch treatment periodically to enhanced it's effectiveness. A treatment may work very well in one person but may have little effect in another. Thus, it's best to seek the advise of a trained dermatologist to help access the right treatment any inverse psoriasis cases that arises rather than resorting to self medication.
